The article analyzes the specifics of the regional development of Soviet trade in the 1930s as an element of the planned economic system based on the materials of Eastern Siberia. The characteristics of the structure and volume of retail turnover of the East Siberian region are given, which made it possible to identify the specific features of trade and supply of the population of this territory. The conclusion is formulated that the East Siberian region, which has an agrarian specialization, was allocated a smaller volume of commodity mass in comparison with other regions of the country. The volume of retail turnover did not fully satisfy the consumer demand of the population, which was due to the residual principle of investment in industries producing consumer goods during the implementation of the policy of forced industrialization. Based on statistical data and archival documents, a conclusion is made about the disproportion of urban and rural supply.
