This article presents the results of a study on the professionally significant qualities of customs officials, necessary for effective performance in conditions of high responsibility, stress, and communication loads. Based on the analysis of scientific literature, key groups of qualities were identified: emotional and psychological stability, communication skills, cognitive abilities, volitional and moral-business characteristics, as well as physical fitness. The emphasis is placed on the complex nature of these requirements, determined by the specific work of ensuring the state's economic security. To assess the level of formation of these qualities in future specialists, a specialized questionnaire was developed and tested on students majoring in “customs affairs”. The diagnostics allowed for the creation of a differentiated psychological profile of readiness. The overall level of readiness was assessed as moderate. The personality structure of future specialists reveals pronounced strengths associated with high internal responsibility, honesty, developed teamwork skills, and empathy. Simultaneously, areas requiring attention and targeted development were identified. These include emotional and volitional stability under stressful conditions, the ability to concentrate and distribute attention in the presence of distractions, and prompt decision-making. particular attention is drawn to the identified gap between theoretical readiness and insufficient confidence in applying competencies in simulated complex and non-standard professional situations, which is critically important for real-world service. The research results underscore the necessity of integrating special training sessions and practice-oriented methods into the educational process, aimed at developing the identified deficient psychological and psychophysical qualities for the training of competent and reliable customs service personnel.
