The information base of the research was the works of domestic and foreign economists in the field of shadow economy research and methods for its assessment, as well as electronic resources. The article discusses the concept of "shadow economy", types, structure and groups of methods for assessing the scale of the shadow economy, their features. Such issues as the manifestation of informal employment and corruption in the conditions of shadow activity are touched upon. Statistical data on the shadow economy have been studied and summarized in the form of graphs, structured measures to combat the shadow economy in Russia. Recommendations aimed at reducing the scale of the shadow economy are presented.
