THEORETICAL APPROACHES TO DETERMINING THE ESSENCE OF COMPETITIVENESS OF SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES

Abstract (English):
The relevance of a more detailed examination of the economic category of “enterprise competitiveness” is determined. The need for a unified interpretation of company competitiveness, including for small and medium-sized enterprises, is noted. Using a wide range of theoretical methods, the evolution of interpretations of the concept of enterprise competitiveness is examined. Criterial features for combining interpretations into consolidated groups are identified. Special attention is paid to the analysis of existing interpretations of the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises. It is revealed that in most cases, the competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies is assessed based on the effective use of the company's potential, taking into account the complete satisfaction of the needs of buyers of goods and services and the high efficiency of countering external and internal factors. The competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies is also determined depending on the degree to which the company achieves its goals, financial performance, market position, and existing competitive advantages. Based on the analysis of interpretations of enterprise competitiveness, a general definition of the competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies is provided.
